WE ARE THE HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL AUTHORITY

During the times of dominating football teams like South Panola and even local teams like Noxubee County, often the teams who have produced STELLAR work during a season but have little or no notoriety for it. These teams (or the one in particular that I have always rooted for) have kind of gotten pushed aside and disregarded after years and years of losing seasons.
Of course, the team that I have most in mind is Neshoba Central High School. Last year, Neshoba Central went 1-9 for the season, only winning against cross-town rivals, Philadelphia. This continued a streak of losing seasons that extended back into the late ''90s. Fans really had nothing to look forward to, that is until Coach Chuck Friend came back into the picture. Of course, no one heard anything about that. He snuck in under the radar as an assistant coach/helper during the 2006 season. 2007 season brought him in as head coach after Coach Steve Cheatham's departure to East Central Community College.

However, times in Neshoba Central football have been changing.

This year, Neshoba Central got off to an AMAZING start. The first five games (including a district win against Koscuisko) were won by a fairly decent margin. Something this amazing might warrant some identification by local TV and news sources, but it did not. Only after Neshoba Central was beaten by West Lauderdale (another district game) by only a mere 4 points did they receive any recognition, albeit negative it was recognition nevertheless.

The next week, Neshoba Central played Winona winning by 20 points. But dancing around while doing handstands would not satisfy the likes of local media. Still nothing; no pats on the back or "good job, guys!" from anyone but their fans. Homecoming for Neshoba Central was followed by much of the same. They played another district game against Caledonia High School and won 46-6. Another district game, another district win... still no recognition.

Granted that our boys did not win the last three games they played in, they still finished the season 6-4. This record is the best the school has obtained in years. This team has been put down, laughed at, and made a mockery of--- boys that have played their hearts out from buzzer to buzzer, for what? The general public to turn their backs on them?

Well no more! I would like to congratulate our Neshoba Central Rockets on a superior job this year. Although we did not go as far as we wanted, we still have so much to be proud of. Good job, guys! You have had a fantastic season. So, keep your heads held high and be proud of your accomplishments. And, if nothing else... Remember--- you were the school to score the most on Noxubee County all year. 13 points speaks volumes!

We love you all and GOOOOO ROCKETS!
